A significant concern is the rapid spread of a particular influenza A(H3N2) variant, subclade K, which constitutes nearly 90% of characterized viruses collected since late September.
Despite a recognized mismatch between the circulating flu strains and the current vaccine, health officials strongly advise vaccination for everyone six months and older. While the virus has mutated, inducing some antibodies through vaccination can still aid in fighting the disease. Flu activity is expected to persist for several more weeks.
