Teenager's Life Hangs in Balance: Urgent Donor Appeal

A family has issued an urgent plea for a stem cell donor to save their teenage daughter, Millie Fairley, who was diagnosed with aplastic anaemia shortly after her 13th birthday. This rare condition prevents her bone marrow from producing sufficient blood cells, leaving her vulnerable to infections and requiring immediate treatment.

Millie's life has been significantly impacted, forcing her into isolation at home or in hospital. Medics have confirmed that a stem cell transplant is essential for her recovery, but unfortunately, none of her relatives were a suitable match. Her family is working with the blood cancer charity DKMS to find a donor.

DKMS emphasizes the simplicity of registering as a donor, involving a quick health questionnaire and painless mouth swabs. This 10-minute process could offer a life-saving second chance to Millie and other patients, with donation typically occurring via blood, similar to platelet donation, and full support provided.
