Urgent Stem Cell Appeal for Two Brothers
18 Apr
Summary
- Two young brothers diagnosed with rare Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome.
- A stem cell transplant is their only chance for a normal life.
- Family seeks donors, especially those with Eastern European heritage.

A mother is making an urgent plea to find stem cell donors for her two young sons, Cezar, aged two, and David, aged 10 months. Both boys have been diagnosed with Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome (WAS), a rare and life-threatening genetic disorder.
Their current lives are highly restricted, as they are too vulnerable to participate in activities with other children. Doctors have informed the family that a stem cell transplant represents the brothers' only chance at leading a normal life.
Neither the boys' mother, Marcela Zberea, nor their father, Stelian Dorin Nica, are a match. Consequently, the family, based in west London, has partnered with the DKMS stem cell charity. They are campaigning to raise awareness and encourage registrations on the stem cell register, particularly appealing to individuals with Eastern European heritage.
DKMS emphasizes that for many patients, including Cezar and David, a matching donor found through the register could be their sole hope. Registering as a potential donor takes only a few minutes and could offer someone a lifetime.
