Listeria Scare: Ham Products Pulled!
1 Jul
Summary
- Tesco and Lidl recalled premium ham products.
- Listeria monocytogenes presence is the concern.
- Consumers urged not to eat affected ham.

Major retailers Tesco and Lidl have initiated urgent recalls for several of their premium own-brand ham products. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland confirmed the recall due to the potential presence of listeria monocytogenes bacteria, a known health risk. Affected items include specific batch codes of Brady Family Wood Smokes Real Irish Ham, Brady Family Hand Crumbed Real Irish Ham, Lidl's Deluxe Triple Oak Smoked Carved Irish Ham, Deluxe Honey Roast Carved Irish Ham, and Tesco Finest Crumbed Shaved Ham. The use-by date for all these products is July 16th.
Listeria monocytogenes can lead to mild flu-like symptoms or gastrointestinal distress such as nausea and diarrhoea. While most healthy individuals experience mild or no symptoms, the bacteria pose a significant risk to pregnant women, newborns, and individuals with compromised immune systems. Cold meats, smoked fish, and certain cheeses are identified as high-risk food types. Shoppers are advised to dispose of the recalled ham immediately and notices will be displayed at points of sale.
