Uttar Pradesh is experiencing a profound healthcare transformation, driven by rapid expansion in medical education and improved access to services. The state has seen its medical colleges increase from just two in 1947 to 90 by 2024-25, aligning with the "One District, One Medical College" goal.
Healthcare accessibility has expanded, with the density of health units per 10,000 population rising to 35.71 by 2023-24. Critical services like dialysis are available in all 75 districts, and CT scans in 74 districts, reinforcing emergency medical services with over 4,500 ambulances.
Significant strides have been made in maternal and child health, with institutional deliveries reaching 96.10 percent and a decline in the Maternal Mortality Ratio to 142 (2020-22). The Infant Mortality Rate also dropped, and immunization coverage improved to 91.3 percent by 2021.
Financial protection through schemes like PM-JAY has benefited over 5.2 crore residents, with 56.30 lakh receiving free treatment. Uttar Pradesh also leads nationally in creating Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs.
Disease control initiatives have yielded remarkable results, particularly in tackling Encephalitis and Tuberculosis. The 'Dastak' campaign drastically reduced Encephalitis deaths, and the TB Mukt Abhiyan is progressing towards national elimination goals, with high treatment success rates.
