UP Tackles Communicable Diseases with Public Push
2 Jul
Summary
- Public participation is vital for disease control, not just government efforts.
- Uttar Pradesh achieved nearly 99% control over encephalitis previously.
- Residents must prevent water stagnation and eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
The Dastak campaign, aimed at combating communicable diseases, was launched by Uttar Pradesh's Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. He highlighted that eliminating diseases like dengue and malaria requires active public participation, as government initiatives alone cannot ensure lasting control. Pathak noted Uttar Pradesh's success in controlling encephalitis, which was once a major health challenge, and also pointed to a significant decrease in dengue and malaria cases.
Pathak underscored that sustained public awareness and community efforts are key to preventing future outbreaks. The state government organizes communicable disease control campaigns thrice annually, involving thirteen departments. However, the success of this initiative hinges on citizens preventing water stagnation around their homes and actively eliminating mosquito breeding sites, reinforcing the principle that prevention is as crucial as treatment.
