New CT Scans Slash Radiation, Detect Disease Early
22 Sep
Summary
- Ultra-low-dose CT chest screening and coronary angiography now available.
- AI technology significantly reduces radiation exposure for patients.
- Early detection of cancer and coronary artery disease is enhanced.

MGM Healthcare Malar in Adyar has introduced cutting-edge ultra-low-dose CT chest screening and low-dose CT coronary angiography, utilizing deep-learning AI and quantitative imaging. This innovative approach enables earlier and more precise detection of cancer and coronary artery disease.
The hospital reported its ultra-low-dose chest CT program has screened 260 patients, leading to biopsies for 179 and the detection of 54 cancers. Doctors emphasized that this method substantially reduces radiation exposure while preserving crucial lung architecture for diagnosis.
For coronary artery disease assessment, the hospital performed 133 examinations using minimal contrast (15 mL per scan) and a low-radiation strategy. Dr. Samuel Reefath highlighted the focus on providing essential clinical information while minimizing patient burden, including radiation, contrast, cost, and time, thanks to AI reconstruction technology named Delta.
