- A surgeon in London operated on a prostate cancer patient in Gibraltar.
- The procedure had a minimal lag time of only 0.06 seconds.

In a groundbreaking medical achievement, the UK's first remote robotic surgery successfully connected a London-based surgeon to a patient in Gibraltar. The procedure, performed on February 11, 2026, involved operating on a prostate cancer patient 2,400 kilometers away. Professor Prokar Dasgupta controlled a robotic system in Gibraltar from London, experiencing a minimal lag of only 0.06 seconds.
Patient Paul Buxton, who had recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer, described the experience as a "no-brainer" and a privilege to be part of medical history. He expressed that this telesurgery has elevated Gibraltar's surgical capabilities significantly. Another successful remote surgery occurred on March 4, 2026, with the procedure scheduled to be live-streamed to urological surgeons worldwide.
This innovative telesurgery eliminates the need for patients in remote areas to travel long distances for complex procedures, offering significant humanitarian and cost benefits. The collaboration between The London Clinic and the Gibraltar Health Authority, utilizing the Toumai Robotic System, represents a major step forward in making advanced surgical expertise accessible globally. The surgery was supported by global technology services provider, Presidio.
