15 Mar
Summary
- British vets travel to China to aid injured dogs from trade.
- Specialized orthopaedic treatment is unavailable in China.
- Some severely injured dogs will return to the UK for care.

Heroic British veterinarians are embarking on a vital mission to Harbin, China, to support animals rescued from the dog meat trade. Orthopaedic specialists Vanessa Waite and Calum Marshall, backed by the UK charity Broken Biscuits, will train local shelter volunteers in treating debilitating injuries. Many of the rescued dogs arrive with severe, untreated fractures and spinal damage after enduring neglect.
This collaborative effort seeks to provide essential orthopaedic care, which is currently non-existent in China. The team will also donate 20 dog wheelchairs to aid mobility. The most critically injured dogs, such as miniature Poodle Pickle and paraplegic Golden Lab Summer, are slated to return to the UK for specialized treatment and eventual adoption by Broken Biscuits.
The mission addresses the horrific conditions faced by millions of dogs in China's meat trade, often involving theft and cruel transport. By sharing their expertise, the vets aim to create lasting improvements in animal welfare long after their departure, offering a brighter future for these vulnerable animals.
