Summary
- UKHSA urges parents to check their child's Personal Child Health Record.
- Vaccines protect against serious illnesses like measles and whooping cough.
- Measles and mumps are reappearing, highlighting vaccination importance.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a new alert for parents in England to check their child's Personal Child Health Record, often referred to as the 'red book'. This record tracks crucial health details, including vaccinations, and is essential for monitoring a child's well-being.
The agency stressed that vaccinations are the most effective defense against serious illnesses like measles and whooping cough. Parents are specifically asked to review their child's red book or consult their GP practice to ensure all scheduled vaccinations are up-to-date.
This advisory comes as the NHS reports a resurgence of measles and mumps, diseases for which the MMR vaccine offers robust protection. The NHS highlights that achieving high vaccination rates, particularly 95% for MMR, is crucial to prevent the spread of measles.
Infants are scheduled to receive several vaccines in the first year of life, including the six-in-one, Rotavirus, MenB, Pneumococcal, and MMRV vaccines, according to specific timelines by eight weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks, and one year old.
