Health Dept Investigates Fake Cures
7 Sep
Summary
- Health department ordered inquiry into touch healing claims.
- Allegations involve false propagation without scientific basis.
- Action, including police FIR, may follow if proven true.
An inquiry has been ordered by the Udupi district health department into social media claims suggesting diseases can be cured through 'touch healing.' This directive comes after a complaint was filed by a social media influencer against an individual allegedly making these unsubstantiated claims on Facebook. The health department is investigating whether the person is misleading the public without any medical degree, accreditation, or scientific foundation for their purported healing methods.
The district health officer has mandated an investigation team, operating under the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (Amendment) Act, to conduct a thorough inquiry. They are tasked with verifying the individual's background and the validity of the healing claims. The team is expected to submit its findings within seven days from September 2. If the allegations are substantiated, the health department has stated that further action will be taken, which could include registering a First Information Report with the police.
