Miracle Survival: One Twin Lives After Devastating Diagnosis
23 Mar
Summary
- Identical twins diagnosed with severe TTTS in utero.
- One twin survived after the other passed away during pregnancy.
- Charity Cuddles provided vital support during the difficult journey.

Laura Pridding experienced a harrowing pregnancy after her twins were diagnosed with severe twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). This dangerous condition affects identical twins sharing a placenta. Despite initial hope after laser surgery, a 20-week scan revealed one twin, Henry, had died.
Laura was advised to continue the pregnancy to support her other twin, George. This devastating situation was compounded by her waters breaking on Christmas Day 2023. After further complications and transfers, George was born via emergency Caesarean section on January 7, 2024, weighing only 1.1kg.
George faced significant medical challenges, including breathing difficulties and a transfer to neonatal care. The volunteer-run charity Cuddles provided essential emotional and practical support to Laura and Ali throughout their ordeal. Their fundraising efforts have also equipped the hospital with life-saving equipment.
Despite doctors warning George might not survive, he is now three years old, walking and talking. Though he still experiences health issues, including seizures, his survival and development are a testament to his resilience and his parents' strength. The family has raised nearly £3,000 for Cuddles.
