TV Host Finds Healing in Garden After Cancer Diagnosis

Two years ago, in 2023, Gardeners' World presenter Rachel de Thame was diagnosed with breast cancer, an event that she says sent "shockwaves" through her life. Penning her thoughts at the time, Rachel shared that while the treatment was challenging, she also found "compensations" in the form of a "renewed, almost desperate desire to get on with some of the things" she had long wanted to do.

With a newfound outlook, Rachel is now focused on transforming her garden into a sanctuary for herself and others. She elaborates on her aspirations, saying, "On a more immediate and personal level, I'm focusing on next spring and how I want my garden to look and, above all, make me feel."

Fortunately, Rachel's condition was detected early, and she has since made a full recovery. She has extolled the virtues of gardening for its role in her physical and mental well-being during that tough time.

In a recent episode of Gardeners' World, fans were left in tears after another expert, Steve, opened up about his terminal cancer diagnosis. Despite the difficult news, Steve shared that he is approaching it as "another challenge" and has experienced a "big, creative burst" as a result of his positive attitude.
