TUI Holiday Ruined By Salmonella: £6,000 Trip a Disaster
4 Feb
Summary
- Man fell severely ill with salmonella on £6,000 TUI holiday.
- Infection was allegedly caused by 'disgusting' food at resort.
- UKHSA instructed him to stop working due to the illness.

A £6,000 TUI holiday to Jamaica for a couple's 38th wedding anniversary was reportedly ruined when the husband contracted salmonella. Tony Wallace, 59, became severely ill on July 1st, suffering from intense stomach pains, dizziness, and diarrhea, which he attributes to the food at the Sunset at the Palms resort. He described the food as "pure filth" and found a dead cockroach in his room.
Upon returning to Portsmouth, Mr. Wallace was instructed by the UK Health Security Agency to cease working due to the infection. He stated that the hotel offered no adequate medical assistance, only suggesting he pay for a taxi to a potentially "dangerous" hospital. TUI reportedly refused a refund, suggesting he could have contracted the illness anywhere, despite the UKHSA pinpointing the start of his illness to his stay at the resort.
This incident follows reports of four other British deaths on TUI holidays in Cape Verde within the last year, with families seeking damages. Mr. Wallace expressed extreme disappointment with TUI, a company they had booked with for years, and stated he no longer wishes to do business with them.
