Nearly Half of Triple Zero Calls Not Emergencies
16 Feb
Summary
- About 1800 of 3800 daily triple zero calls don't need emergency response.
- New hub doubles capacity to divert non-emergency calls.
- Initiative aims to ease pressure on emergency departments.

A significant portion of triple zero (000) calls do not necessitate an emergency ambulance response, according to service staff. Daily, approximately 3800 calls are made to triple zero, with around 1800 being diverted to the Queensland Ambulance Service Clinical Hub. This hub, located at the Emergency Services Complex in Kedron, has recently undergone an upgrade.
The expansion of the clinical hub more than doubles its operational capacity. This enhancement is part of a broader strategy to reduce unnecessary emergency department visits and ease the burden on hospital resources. The initiative was initially established in 2020 to assist hospitals and first responders in managing the increased patient numbers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
