Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Trichy has significantly enhanced its capacity to treat firecracker-related burn injuries this Diwali. A new, fully equipped 16-bed burn treatment unit has been established on the fourth floor of the super-specialty block. Complementing this, an additional eight-bed ward is now operational on the third floor.
With a dedicated team of at least 10 doctors and 25 nurses on standby, the hospital is prepared to provide immediate first aid and ongoing treatment. Medical professionals are strongly urging the public, especially children and their guardians, to exercise extreme caution during Diwali festivities. Key safety advice includes avoiding holding firecrackers while lighting them to prevent severe injuries and ensuring adult supervision for children handling fireworks.
Authorities also recommend bursting firecrackers in open, uncongested spaces and keeping water readily available. Storage of fireworks near kitchen stoves or LPG cylinders is strongly discouraged to mitigate risks. Prompt first aid and immediate transfer to the nearest government hospital are crucial for any accidental burn injuries.
