22 Aug
Summary
- A counselor delivered a baby on a crowded train traveling to NRS Medical College.
- The mother, Mursida Ali, experienced sudden labor pain en route to the hospital.
- Aarti Bain, the counselor, skillfully managed the delivery using traditional wisdom.

Anya Arara Bain, a counselor with NGO Cankids, transformed a routine commute on a Wednesday morning into an extraordinary event. Traveling on the Canning local train towards NRS Medical College & Hospital, Bain encountered Mursida Ali, a 28-year-old expectant mother, experiencing intense labor pains.
As the train approached Champahati, Ali, who was on her way to NRSMCH with a neighbor, collapsed from the pain. Fellow female passengers cleared a space, allowing Ali to lie down. Bain swiftly organized a makeshift delivery area within the crowded compartment.
By the time the train reached Baghajatin, the delivery was imminent. Bain utilized traditional wisdom to assist in the birth, carefully maneuvering the infant to freedom. After the baby's first cry filled the train, Bain cradled the newborn. Upon arrival at Sealdah, Bain ensured the mother and child were transported to NRS Medical College for further care.
