Artist Tracey Emin is championing Transport for London's (TfL) Priority Seating Week, encouraging passengers to give up their seats for those with non-visible disabilities. Emin, who has a stoma bag after undergoing life-saving surgery for bladder cancer, emphasized how personal health conditions can significantly affect everyday activities like commuting.
During this annual campaign, TfL reminds travellers that not all health conditions are outwardly visible. Emin urged Londoners to offer their seats if they do not require them, stressing the profound difference such a gesture can make. The announcements are being broadcast across 10 central London Underground stations and several bus stations until May 17.
Giovanni Cinque from Colostomy UK noted that difficulties on public transport can be distressing even if not apparent. TfL's initiative, now in its eighth year, includes network events and new stickers to highlight accessibility. Staff at selected Elizabeth Line stations will also distribute 'Please Offer Me A Seat' badges.
