Toy Gun Recall: Water Beads Pose Asphyxiation Risk
9 Feb
Summary
- Toy gun shoots water beads from a grenade-shaped tank.
- Swallowed beads can block airway, causing asphyxiation.
- Product fails to meet safety regulations; return for refund.

Smart Toys Limited has initiated an urgent recall of its Soft Bulalaet Gun, identified by reference 555D-2 and batch AJ2023-02. The toy, marketed with the tagline "let's experience the war together," poses significant health dangers to children. The primary concern is the detachable, grenade-shaped plastic tank that dispenses water beads.
These water beads, also known as superabsorbent polymers, can cause severe harm if swallowed or inhaled. When hydrated, they expand dramatically, posing a risk of airway blockage and asphyxiation, or gastrointestinal obstruction requiring surgical removal. The product has been linked to child fatalities abroad and serious injuries within the UK, failing to comply with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.
Consumers are strongly advised to discontinue use of the toy gun immediately. Smart Toys Limited recommends returning the product to the distributor for a full refund. For further information or assistance regarding this recall, customers can contact Smart Toys Limited directly at 020 8571 1041.
