Toxic Hand Sanitizer Recalled at Gold Coast Resort

Guests at the Paradise Resort Gold Coast are being urgently advised to dispose of a complimentary hand sanitiser. The 60ml bottles of Dr Schwartz hand sanitiser, distributed between August 31, 2020, and January 6, 2026, have been recalled due to contamination with methanol, a highly toxic substance.
Consumer watchdogs issued an urgent recall after detecting methanol in the sanitiser, which poses severe health risks, including potentially fatal consequences if ingested. While larger bottles at the resort also contained methanol, only the smaller gifted bottles were distributed to guests. Paradise Resort has contacted previous guests to inform them of the recall.
The recall was initiated after a guest inappropriately consumed two bottles, leading to a medical reaction and subsequent testing by Queensland Health. This revealed the presence of methanol, contrary to the expected ethanol content. Authorities emphasize that hand sanitisers must be used as directed and not ingested.
