Health Minister Ma. Subramanian initiated a major uplift for healthcare professionals by issuing permanent job orders to 1,000 contract nurses on Tuesday. This action marks a significant stride in regularizing the nursing workforce, addressing a key demand from healthcare workers who had previously protested.
The government has committed to issuing a formal order for maternity benefits for contract nurses, a crucial benefit that had been a focal point of their advocacy. Since assuming office, the current administration has regularized jobs for 5,825 individuals, a notable increase compared to the 1,600 regularized under the previous government.
Further reinforcing its commitment to healthcare staff welfare, the monthly remuneration for 1,325 Reproductive and Child Health workers in Primary Health Centres will be elevated from ₹1,500 to ₹5,000. Orders for this pay revision are scheduled for issuance on January 19.
