Tiruppur Cancer Block Gets Advanced PET-CT Scan

The Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruppur is set to enhance its cancer care services with the installation of a PET-CT scan and additional laboratory equipment in its 100-bed cancer block. District Collector Manish Narnaware recently reviewed the progress of this significant initiative, which involves an investment of ₹40 crore for the new technology.

The existing 50,000 sq.ft. facility, built at a cost of ₹60 crore, is already operational and equipped with advanced machinery, including a medical linear accelerator and brachytherapy. This unique project, developed under the Namakku Naame Scheme, also benefited from public-private partnership.

A substantial ₹5 crore in public funding was mobilized by the Tiruppur Rotary Public Welfare Trust, covering one-third of the project's cost. The trust initiated this effort due to the high incidence of cancer within the district's large industrial workforce. Once fully operational with the new equipment, the facility will offer free cancer treatment to patients under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.
