Principal Secretary S. Suresh Kumar convened a review meeting on Sunday to assess the Tirupati district's medical and health department's readiness for the monsoon season. The meeting focused on anticipating the potential spread of viral diseases, particularly in low-lying and backward areas, given the anticipated heavy rainfall over the next few months.
Kumar issued directives to municipal corporation sanitation officials, emphasizing the need for improved hygiene in public toilets and the closure of open drains. He also stressed the importance of preventing water pipeline contamination from sewage line leakages, a significant risk during the monsoon.
Further instructions were given to implement measures to control mosquito populations and clear waterlogged areas to prevent diseases such as chikungunya, malaria, and dengue. The Principal Secretary also examined three years of historical data on seasonal disease prevalence in Tirupati district, comparing trends and assessing control efforts.
Earlier in the day, Kumar formally inaugurated the Pulse Polio campaign by administering polio drops to a child, marking a significant public health initiative.
