In 2023, a routine mammogram revealed two tumours in her left breast, one benign and one malignant, leading to a stage 1 breast cancer diagnosis. Following surgery, Knowles is now cancer-free.

Knowles' candid account emphasizes the critical role of early detection, noting that a missed mammogram during the COVID-19 pandemic had nearly delayed her screening. She urges women to prioritize regular check-ups, as her sister, a breast cancer survivor, stressed that staying on schedule could have allowed for even earlier detection.

Her experience sheds light on stage 0 cancer, also known as carcinoma in situ, the earliest form of cancer where abnormal cells remain in their original location.
