A 74-year-old man from Pimpri Chinchwad has achieved a remarkable recovery from stage IVA throat cancer. He successfully underwent advanced precision oncology treatments at TGH Onco Life Cancer Centre in Talegaon Dabhade, Pune, which not only eradicated his disease but also preserved his larynx.
Janardhan Umale, who had a history of tobacco use, experienced progressive hoarseness and neck swelling. Medical evaluations revealed advanced cancer with lymph node involvement. A multidisciplinary tumor board recommended radical chemo-radiation.
He received advanced Helical Tomotherapy combined with concurrent cisplatin chemotherapy. This focused approach aimed at preserving his voice and controlling the cancer. By sixteen weeks post-treatment, his voice quality had improved beyond its pre-cancer state, and lymph nodes had regressed.
Doctors emphasized that delayed treatment could have resulted in permanent voice loss and other complications. They stressed the importance of post-treatment care, including dietary modifications, swallowing exercises, and regular follow-ups, to ensure continued recovery and well-being.
