Thailand is mourning the loss of Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, who died at 47. The princess passed away peacefully at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok on Thursday evening after being in a coma for over three years.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha was hospitalized after collapsing in December 2022, with a heart condition suspected as the cause. Her health had significantly deteriorated in recent months, suffering from multiple infections and requiring medical support for vital organ functions.
Educated at Cornell Law School, the princess had a distinguished career, serving as a UN Women's Goodwill Ambassador and Thailand's ambassador to Austria. She was considered a prominent figure within the royal inner circle, though the King has not named an official heir.
The King has ordered that her body be taken to the throne hall at the Grand Palace for public respects, with burial to follow with the highest honors.
