Thailand's Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, has died at the age of 47. The princess had been in a coma for nearly four years following health complications.
She was admitted to a hospital in December 2022 after experiencing a sudden loss of consciousness due to a heart condition. Tragically, her condition worsened due to an intra-abdominal infection, colitis, low blood pressure, arrhythmias, and blood clotting disorders.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha was a prominent public figure, known for her advocacy for female prisoners and her diplomatic service. She pursued higher education in law at Cornell University and had a career in the Thai Office of the Attorney-General.
Her international career included serving as Thailand's ambassador to Austria, Slovenia, and Slovakia from 2012 to 2014. She also founded a charity dedicated to the rights of pregnant inmates and was appointed a UN goodwill ambassador for the rule of law.
The princess held the rank of general in the army and served in the Royal Security Command. She was among the King's children eligible to succeed to the throne.
