- Self-help groups will manage cafe operations and sales.

Telangana is launching a network of millet cafes, integrating nutrition security with women's economic empowerment. This initiative, spearheaded by the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), aims to reintroduce traditional grains like jowar, bajra, and ragi into daily diets. The first phase involves establishing five cafes at a cost of ₹2.2 crore, with construction nearing completion at key Hyderabad locations, Yadagirigutta, and Mahbubnagar.
These cafes will offer a diverse menu of millet-based foods, blending traditional recipes with contemporary formats to appeal to modern tastes. The project significantly focuses on women's economic empowerment, with self-help groups (SHGs) managing all cafe operations, from food preparation to sales and customer service. To support this, 40 women have already received training from the Indian Institute of Millets Research (IIMR).
