A family in Ahmedabad chose organ donation after their 17-year-old son, Krish Akbari, was declared brain dead following a severe road accident on March 28. Krish was hit by a blue bull that had crossed the road divider after being startled by a truck. Despite resuscitation efforts, he suffered severe brain damage due to oxygen deprivation.
The family, including his father Dr. Ravi Akbari, understood the gravity of his condition due to their medical background. After confirmation of brain death, they decided to donate Krish's organs to save other lives. His heart was transplanted into a 13-year-old boy, his lungs to a 22-year-old, and his kidneys and corneas were also donated.
This act of profound generosity, facilitated through the government's organ allocation system, has given new life to six people. Krish's father expressed that his son is alive in a way, as his organs continue to function in others. The family also urged authorities to address the issue of wild animals on city roads to prevent similar tragedies.
