The family of Owen Jenkinson, a "cheeky" and "special" 17-year-old, are mourning his passing from Ewing sarcoma, a rare bone cancer. Owen was diagnosed in 2022 after initially believing he had a pulled muscle while playing football. His family treasured the additional three and a half years of life granted by treatment, experiencing his growth into a young man.
Initially experiencing leg pain, Owen's condition worsened, leading to his diagnosis. Doctors had informed the family that without treatment, his life expectancy was only six to eight weeks. Owen underwent extensive chemotherapy, even facing a second round, but maintained a positive and determined spirit throughout his illness.
Owen passed away at home on November 23. Rotherham United FC, where he was a keen supporter, shared a statement acknowledging his inspiring attitude during his "impossibly difficult journey." His family remembers him for his light of love, bright smile, and vibrant personality, stating the world will "shine less brightly" without him.
