A teenager's night out turned into a life-threatening ordeal when she contracted meningitis, an infection of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
Sian Alderton, 18, began experiencing severe symptoms, including clinginess and aching, just two days after a club outing in October 2024. Her mother noticed alarming signs, leading to an urgent hospital visit.
Doctors quickly determined Alderton had meningitis and placed her in a medically induced coma, fearing she might not survive the next 24 hours. They believe she contracted the infection through close contact, possibly by sharing a vape.
Fortunately, Alderton, now 19, has recovered fully and shows no signs of brain damage. However, the experience has left her cautious about social outings and she is now warning others about the dangers of severe symptoms.
