Teacher Hears Students Again After Hearing Aid Fails

Sarvjeet Kaur, a teacher from Fatehgarh Sahib, experienced a significant decline in her hearing over several months, which increasingly affected her ability to teach and interact with colleagues. Conventional hearing aids and multiple treatment attempts at various centers proved unsuccessful, leading her to seek specialized care at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh.

At GMCH, Dr. Surinder K Singhal and his team evaluated Kaur's complex case, which involved a perforated eardrum and previous unsuccessful interventions. After exhausting other options, the medical team recommended the Osia-3 system, an advanced bone-anchored hearing device. This system bypasses damaged parts of the ear by transmitting sound vibrations directly to the inner ear through the skull bone.

The surgery was successful, and upon activation four weeks later, Kaur experienced a profound restoration of her hearing.
