Third Woman Dies in San Jose Cosmetic Surgery Week
27 Jan
Summary
- Teacher died one day after undergoing multiple cosmetic surgeries.
- Kerr's death was the third fatality at a San Jose clinic in one week.
- Authorities await autopsy results to confirm Kerr's exact cause of death.

Regina Brumley Kerr, a 43-year-old teacher, died on January 24, 2026, one day after a series of cosmetic procedures. The surgeries included a tummy tuck, liposuction on her arms, and a fat transfer performed at a private clinic in San Jose, Costa Rica. She experienced complications and was transferred to Hospital Mexico, where she passed away.
Kerr's death is the third reported fatality among women undergoing cosmetic surgery in San Jose within the past week. The first was Cinthya Carvajal Guevara, 48, who died on January 15, 2026, following an operation. The second was Ivannia Torres Cubillo, 40, who died on January 19, 2026, after a tummy tuck and other procedures.
Investigations are underway to determine the precise causes of these deaths. The College of Physicians has urged the public to verify the qualifications and specializations of cosmetic surgeons. The NHS also advises caution, noting that no surgery is risk-free and that international clinics may not offer the same standard of follow-up care as domestic providers.
