- Hospital bookings for sanfu moxibustion are on par with last year.
- Younger adults seek TCM for stomach issues due to lifestyle habits.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapies designed to combat winter ailments during summer's peak heat are becoming more diverse and popular. The 'sanfu' period, comprising the three hottest days of the lunar calendar, offers an optimal time for these treatments, aiming to expel internal cold and prevent future winter illnesses.
Sanfu moxibustion, a well-known therapy involving warm herbal plasters on acupuncture points, is widely used for respiratory conditions. This year, Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine has seen approximately 7,000 bookings for sanfu moxibustion, matching last year's figures.
The principle of "treating winter diseases in summer" has evolved, with hospitals now offering comprehensive systems. These include TCM formulas, massage, and other therapies beyond just herbal plasters, catering to various needs from cardiology to pediatrics.
Physicians are noting increased interest from younger demographics in TCM treatments for stomach discomfort and diarrhea, attributed to consumption of cold drinks and unhealthy eating habits. Respiratory and allergic conditions are also commonly treated.
While sanfu moxibustion is effective for chronic conditions and generally safe, acute symptoms may require different approaches. Patients are advised to adhere to their treatment plans for optimal results, as therapies require time to show benefits.
