On September 4, 2025, Tamil Nadu's Health Minister Ma. Subramanian launched a major healthcare initiative in Ramanathapuram district. The minister announced the inauguration of 27 projects valued at $41.57 million, which have been put into operation for public use.
As part of this initiative, 16 new medical buildings worth $8.87 million have been opened across the district. These include specialized facilities and equipment at Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital, as well as new primary health centers and sub-centers in various constituencies.
The minister also highlighted a unique scheme being implemented in the state, which involves conducting special medical camps every Friday. These camps provide free full-body check-ups to the public, a service that would typically cost up to $15,000 in private hospitals and $4,000 in government facilities. The camps cover a wide range of medical disciplines, from general medicine to traditional Indian therapies.
Additionally, the minister noted that the medical reports from these camps are digitized, allowing patients to receive their test results and medicines on the spot. Those requiring advanced treatment will be referred to government medical college hospitals.
