TN Eases Medical Facility Renewal Process
25 Feb
Summary
- Tamil Nadu simplifies medical institution registration and renewal.
- Accreditations from recognized bodies now suffice for licenses.
- Technology aids virtual inspections for smaller facilities.

The Tamil Nadu government has enacted reforms to streamline the registration and renewal procedures for medical institutions under the Tamil Nadu Clinical Establishments (Regulations) Rules, 2018. These changes address previous complexities, such as repetitive documentation and technical issues with the online portal.
Key to the reform is the recognition of accreditations from major bodies like NABH and JCI, which will now streamline the licensing process. Applications can be digitally verified against accreditation databases. For establishments without accreditation, a separate pathway is available, with applications integrated onto the e-sevai platform.
Furthermore, a new technology-driven inspection process will utilize geo-tagged photos and videos for virtual site visits for clinical establishments under 3,000 square feet. Larger facilities will still undergo physical inspections. The reforms also introduce adaptive document checklists and digital certificates.
