Nurses' Strike Ends: State Agrees to Key Demands

The statewide protest by nurses, which lasted for seven days, has been suspended after the State government addressed their primary demands. Key among these was the assurance of permanent employment for 1,000 nurses, a significant shift from the government's initial stance.
The Health Minister has guaranteed that pending benefits, including maternity leave, will be settled before the upcoming Pongal festival. Furthermore, the government committed to paying arrears to consolidated pay nurses, who recently saw their pay increase from ₹14,000 to ₹18,000, dating back to the announcement of the hike.
In addition to these concessions, the government has agreed to reinstate 724 nurses dismissed after serving during the COVID-19 pandemic. Assurances were also given for filling supervisor and tutor positions, creating new permanent posts, and transitioning approximately 8,000 consolidated pay nurses to permanent roles in phases.
