During a Lunar New Year event speech, Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te was unexpectedly sprayed with vomit by an elderly temple chairman. The chief of the Sacrificial Rites Martial Temple, Lin Pei-huo, became visibly uncomfortable and vomited into his hand, with some of the substance splashing onto the president's shoulder.
President Lai, who is a former doctor, reacted by checking on the unwell chairman and helping to organize first-aid measures. The scheduled event was temporarily paused to address the situation. Organizers assisted the elderly man as he stumbled away.
Later, the chairman apologized for the disturbance. He explained that his relatives had recently contracted norovirus and that he too had fallen ill, attributing the incident to his condition. President Lai informed the crowd that the chairman's condition had stabilized.
