- Cyclospora parasite causes watery diarrhea and illness.
- Nearly 1,000 cases of cyclosporiasis reported in Michigan.

Taco Bell locations have begun removing several fresh ingredients from their menus due to the escalating cyclosporiasis outbreak. Diners may find that items such as lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, cilantro, and onions are no longer available.
The parasite, Cyclospora cayetanensis, is responsible for cyclosporiasis, a condition characterized by prolonged watery diarrhea and frequent bowel movements. While typically a summer ailment, the current outbreak is particularly severe.
Michigan has seen an alarming spike, with nearly 1,000 cases reported since late June, a significant increase from its usual count. Other states, including Ohio, North Carolina, New York, Texas, and Illinois, are also experiencing heightened rates of infection.
Health officials are urging the public to rigorously wash all fresh produce, utensils, and surfaces. Cooking raw produce is also recommended to mitigate the risk of contamination.
