Summary

Health authorities in Sydney have issued an urgent warning, urging residents to be vigilant for measles symptoms. The alert comes as 11 cases of the highly contagious disease have been diagnosed within the past three weeks, significantly increasing the risk for New South Wales.
Recent confirmed cases involved individuals who visited the emergency departments of Nepean and Concord hospitals while unknowingly infectious. A Priceline Pharmacy in St Clair has also been identified as a location visited by an infected person.
NSW Health anticipates further cases as people return from international holidays. Measles outbreaks have been reported in several neighboring countries, including Bali, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines, and Malaysia, as well as Pakistan and India.
Individuals most susceptible to severe measles complications include children under five who are unvaccinated, adults who missed their vaccinations, pregnant women, and those with compromised immune systems. Prompt identification and vaccination are crucial to preventing wider spread.
