A recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has resulted in Swan Care Home in Tillingham, Essex, being placed in special measures. The assessment, prompted by received concerns, revealed serious issues in the care provided to residents.
During the 2025 inspection, officials observed staff speaking to residents in a condescending manner, akin to addressing young children. Furthermore, residents reportedly had very little to occupy their time, with television being their primary, and perhaps only, form of engagement.
This lack of stimulation and respect led to nine breaches of essential regulations. These violations spanned critical areas including person-centred care, maintaining dignity and respect, obtaining informed consent, effective risk management, safeguarding vulnerable individuals, facility maintenance, governance, staffing levels, and recruitment practices.
