Sussex NHS: Use Services Wisely This Winter
11 Jan
Summary
- NHS urges Sussex residents to choose appropriate urgent care services.
- Seasonal illness and winter pressures strain emergency services.
- Over 336,000 patients used alternative urgent care in one year.

The NHS in Sussex is urging residents to utilize the most appropriate healthcare service for their needs, especially during the challenging winter months. With significant demand expected from seasonal illnesses and winter pressures, the health service is promoting the use of alternative facilities.
Services such as NHS 111, Urgent Treatment Centres, walk-in centres, and Minor Injury Units are recommended for urgent but not life-threatening conditions. This approach aims to ensure patients receive timely care while easing the strain on Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments.
From November 2024 to November 2025, a total of 336,324 individuals received treatment at these alternative urgent care settings across Sussex. Doctors emphasize that many patients visiting A&E could be seen more quickly elsewhere.
