£2m Boost for Surrey Cancer Care
15 May
Summary
- Local council invests £2m to enhance cancer treatment services.
- Funding expands chemotherapy unit capacity by nearly double.
- Investment supports new aseptic unit and specialized equipment.

A significant £2m investment from Waverley Borough Council is set to enhance cancer care services at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. This funding will bolster the Chilworth Day Unit, which is currently operating at full capacity, treating approximately 600 patients weekly across 52 chairs.
The investment is earmarked for expanding the unit's capacity to 100 chairs, aiming to nearly double the number of patients treated. This expansion is crucial for meeting the increasing demand for cancer treatments, including complex cases.
Further allocations from the £2m will establish a new aseptic unit for the safe preparation of medicines like chemotherapy drugs. Additionally, funds will support specialized equipment for the new Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre, scheduled to open later this summer.
