Suffolk Care Rated "Good" Despite Staffing Shortfalls
1 Jul
Summary
- Adult social care in Suffolk received a "good" rating from the CQC.
- Inspectors noted staffing shortages causing care review delays.
- Technology use for independence was praised by inspectors.

Suffolk's adult social care services have achieved a "good" rating following a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The CQC assessed nine areas, finding two-thirds met a good standard, though some indicated "shortfalls."
Inspectors commended the "person-centered" approach and the effective use of technology, such as medication reminders and fall-detection devices, to promote independence. Committed staff and strong safeguarding practices were also highlighted as making a positive difference.
However, the inspection revealed critical issues, including a lack of sufficient staff, which resulted in delays for care reviews. The report also pointed to a need for more support for carers accessing respite care and ongoing challenges with digital exclusion for some individuals.
The inspection occurred in December while the local authority was under Conservative leadership. The service faces a requirement to find £17.8 million in savings against a budget of £382 million.
