Following a classmate's fatal fentanyl overdose in 2024, Dunwoody High School senior Mady Cohen spearheaded a life-saving initiative. Driven by grief, Cohen educated herself on fentanyl and Narcan, then successfully proposed placing Narcan in classrooms and common areas.
Her fundraising efforts exceeded $12,000, enabling the distribution of 120 Narcan kits throughout the school. This proactive measure directly led to saving a student's life during an overdose incident.
Cohen's work also spurred the creation of a student club focused on drug education and inspired parents to form Dunwoody Strong. This organization addresses modern youth challenges like vaping and distracted driving. The phone storage boxes funded by Dunwoody Strong have also improved classroom performance.
