- Thousands of dogs have been vaccinated as part of a larger control program.

A concentrated rabies vaccination drive successfully inoculated 1,239 stray dogs on Saturday, October 10th. This initiative, overseen by Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar and health officials, aims to curb rabies transmission to humans. The city, comprising 100 wards across five zones, has a stray dog population of 38,348, with 25,471 already vaccinated as per the National Rabies Control Programme.
Earlier, between August and September, a total of 18,220 dogs received the vaccine. Health department actions were intensified after a surge in complaints regarding stray dog attacks, which have also been linked to freak road accidents. The Commissioner visited several residential areas to monitor the progress of this crucial health operation.
Supported by animal welfare activists and foundations like Safe Home Foundation and Seeshas Kennel Foundation, the corporation utilized eight teams to achieve the day's vaccination target. The primary goal remains safeguarding public health by preventing rabies in both the animal population and the human community.
