Diarrhoea Campaign Fights Child Deaths This Monsoon

In response to the monsoon season, the state health department initiated the 'Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026' on Wednesday. This campaign aims to significantly reduce diarrhoeal diseases affecting young children.
The launch took place at a community health centre in Aliganj, Lucknow. Key elements of the campaign include advocating for the consistent use of oral rehydration solution (ORS) and zinc, emphasizing safe drinking water, promoting hand hygiene, and encouraging breastfeeding.
An awareness vehicle, named 'Diarrhoea Se Dar Nahi,' has begun its route. It will travel through urban slums, rural settlements, and other at-risk locations. This outreach is crucial as diarrhoea is identified as a primary cause of illness and preventable deaths in children under five, despite being both treatable and preventable.
Officials stressed that a lack of awareness, rather than treatment availability, poses the greatest challenge. ORS and zinc are vital for managing diarrhoea effectively. The campaign also includes educational street plays and the distribution of informative materials to caregivers, with dedicated ORS and zinc corners at health facilities.
