Hospital Restricts Visitors Amid Norovirus Outbreak
19 Feb
Summary
- Stepping Hill Hospital imposed visitor restrictions due to norovirus.
- Exceptions are made for end-of-life care, dementia, and learning difficulties.
- Restrictions are under review and will be reassessed on February 20.

Stepping Hill Hospital, operated by the Stockport NHS Foundation Trust in Greater Manchester, has enacted strict visitor restrictions following a severe outbreak of norovirus. The trust reported a 'very high' number of cases of the winter vomiting bug, which causes vomiting and diarrhea, on its wards.
Effective immediately, all general patient visits are suspended. However, specific exceptions are permitted for patients receiving end-of-life care, as well as those with dementia or learning difficulties. These measures are designed to protect vulnerable patients from further infection.
The trust announced that these visitor restrictions will be reviewed on February 20. Enhanced precautions, including increased cleaning and vigilance, are being implemented throughout the hospital to manage the outbreak and safeguard patient well-being.
