Sri Lanka Embraces Robotic Surgery Milestone

Sri Lanka has embarked on a new chapter in surgical advancement with its first-ever live robotic surgery workshop. The landmark event took place at Kings Hospital in Colombo and featured international faculty, including Prof. Subhash Khanna from India.

During the workshop, Prof. Khanna performed complex procedures, notably a robotic bilateral TAPP groin hernia repair and what is recognized as Sri Lanka's first robot-assisted cholecystectomy. The event coincided with the formal launch of India's SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System at the hospital.

This collaborative initiative, attended by approximately 65 surgeons and trainees, underscores a significant step forward for surgical techniques in Sri Lanka. It highlights the growing adoption of robotic surgery and international cooperation in medical innovation.
