- Severe infections and liver failure complicated her hospital stay.
- She spent weeks in intensive care before returning home.

A mother of four from Goddard, Kansas, is continuing her recovery at home following a harrowing experience after a suspected spider bite. The ordeal began on May 28 while she was with her family, leading to a painful bite on her calf that rapidly swelled and became infected. This necessitated a hospital admission on June 4, where she underwent surgery.
Her existing health conditions, including blood-clotting disorders and liver issues, complicated her treatment. Doctors later identified end-stage liver failure, warning her family of the potentially fatal outcome. Despite the severe risks, she opted for continued treatment over hospice care and spent an extensive period in intensive care.
Released from the hospital on July 11, she now requires ongoing home health care and physical therapy. While she hopes for a liver transplant, she is not yet eligible for the transplant list. Experts note that venomous spiders like the brown recluse and black widow are present in Kansas and advise caution with undisturbed items.
